Jansen S. Cheek’s four decades in law enforcement began with the United States Marine Corps — infantryman, designated sniper, drill instructor and marksmanship instructor — followed by a decade of Georgia policing with the LaGrange Police Department and the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority Police: patrol, SWAT, academy instruction and protective services, planning support for the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games, and service as a Special Deputy with the United States Marshals Service protecting Judge Louis Morgan during the Van Pac case.

His federal career centered on how officers are trained and held to standard. As a vice president at Quality Research, Inc. and Science Applications International Corporation he directed U.S. Army Military Police School support contracts — special reaction teams, marksman/observer, protective services and counterdrug programs, including Joint Task Force‑6 counterdrug missions with special operations teams. He co-created and served as Master Instructor for the Army’s Police Intelligence Management Course, then spent thirteen years as Course Manager of the United States Army Civilian Police Academy, one of the nation’s largest federally accredited law enforcement academies, directing curriculum design, instructor development, quality assurance and accreditation.

He concluded his federal service as Director of the Department of Defense Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission Office of Accreditation and Credentialing, with executive oversight of professional standards affecting approximately 178,000 DoD law enforcement officers and intelligence professionals — serving as the Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Manager for the Department of Defense, managing reciprocity with state POST commissions and the DoD component of the National Decertification Index, and representing the Department before the IACP and IADLEST. He has consulted with Gilbertson Investigations since 2017.
