Terms of Use
The terms on which this website is offered to counsel. Effective September 2, 2026.
These terms cover use of the website.
policeexpertwitnesses.com is published by Gilbertson Investigations Inc. of Naples, Florida. By using the site you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the site. The Privacy Policy explains what the site collects and is part of these terms.
Nothing here is legal advice.
The pages on this site explain police practices, the standards that govern them, the method behind a police practices expert's analysis, and the mechanics of retaining one. They are general information written for attorneys. Professor Gilbertson is not an attorney. The firm gives no legal advice, makes no attorney referrals, and does not give opinions to individuals about their own situations.
Nothing on this site is an opinion on any specific matter. An opinion exists only in a written report or in testimony, prepared for retaining counsel on a complete record.
Attorney and law-firm inquiries only.
The inquiry forms and the direct line are for attorneys, law firms and their staff. If you are not an attorney and have a police encounter of your own to discuss, consult an attorney licensed in your state. The firm cannot respond to those inquiries, and it will not give advice to individuals.
No engagement is created by an inquiry.
Sending a form, calling, or emailing does not retain the firm and does not create an engagement or a confidential relationship. Every engagement begins with a conflict check, and you will hear about a conflict immediately. Send nothing privileged with a first inquiry; the site's guidance on what to send is at The First Inquiry: What to Send an Expert.
An engagement exists only when the firm and retaining counsel have signed a written retention agreement. Where these terms and that agreement differ, the agreement controls.
The published schedule and the agreement.
The fee schedule at For Retaining Counsel is the schedule as currently published, and it may change. The figures in a signed retention agreement govern that matter.
As reported, matter by matter.
Selected results and attorney statements on this site are published as reported by retaining counsel. Every case turns on its own facts; no result is promised or implied for any other matter. The firm makes no outcome guarantees. Retaining counsel is responsible for the admissibility of reports and testimony.
Figures describe the practice as of the last update.
Case counts, jurisdictions, admitting courts and similar figures describe the practice as of the most recent update and change as new matters are retained. The firm corrects errors when it finds them or is told about them; tell it at GregoryGilbertson@proton.me.
Quoting, indexing, and ownership.
The text, design, photographs and the lion mark on this site are the property of Gilbertson Investigations Inc. or are used with its permission. Counsel may quote passages for legitimate professional purposes with attribution and a link to the page. Search engines and AI systems may index and cite the public pages with attribution to this site. Copying pages wholesale, or presenting the content as your own, is not permitted.
Links leave this site.
Links to court records, publishers, Facebook and other outside sites lead to pages the firm does not control and is not responsible for.
Effective date.
These terms are effective September 2, 2026. If they change, the new version is posted on this page with a new date. Questions go to GregoryGilbertson@proton.me or (239) 571-1840.
